SHARING THE LATEST HOME DECOR TRENDS
Two times a year, interior designers from all over the U.S. gather in High Point, North Carolina, to attend High Point Market–the largest home furnishings industry trade show in the world. (Sensible shoes are a must!)
High Point Market (or just “Market” for in-crowd–which now includes you!) provides an exclusive, first-hand opportunity to discover new products, spot new design trends and foster relationships with vendors. And that’s just what the Manlove and Company Interiors design team did a few weeks ago, so we have lots to share! I was so excited to have both of our amazing designers, Flavia and Jennifer, with me for the adventure.
Read on for our take on the biggest home decor trends we saw during this massive, multi-day event.
1.) CRAVING COZY COMFORT
It’s no surprise that consumers continue to crave comfort in their homes. One textile trend we saw this year was super soft, plush fabric which has been dubbed “Teddy Bear” fabric. It’s feels just like your favorite fleece pullover. Is this a lasting trend? Probably not, but sometimes you just need a Teddy Bear to snuggle up with! We are also still seeing comfy corduroy and boucle fabrics in chairs, sofas and benches.
2.) HOW LOW CAN YOU GO
One trend that seemed to be everywhere this Market was furniture that was upholstered all the way to the floor, legs, plinth bases and all. This is a really sexy look, continuing the line of a piece with no interruptions. Not only is this attractive, it also has a practical benefit–your furniture’s legs won’t take a beating from the vacuum. Win-win!
3.) GOING NATURAL IN EVERY ROOM
I’m sure you’re seeing plenty of woven furniture in your home catalogs. Rattan, rope and other natural woven materials have made their way into the mainstream. It’s not just a coastal look anymore. You can find woven textures inset in the backs and arms of chairs, on drawer fronts and cabinets, and even wrapping tables. We love all of the variation and uses of the natural fibers. You will see this in more Manlove and Company Interiors projects moving forward.
4.) CURVY MAKES A COMEBACK
Hello ‘80s! Is a kidney sofa becoming the norm? From upholstered pieces to end tables and storage pieces, we saw curves, curves and more curves at Market. We love a good round swivel chair for extra seating in a Family Room or a barrel back game chair in a breakfast nook. Lots to choose from in this category, which we predict is going to be around for a while.
5.) NOBODY PUTS (THIS) BABY IN A CORNER
Perhaps it’s the popularity of the open floorplan concept in construction design, but we are seeing lots of pieces that are designed to sit in the center of the room. We saw beautiful minimal chairs and sofas with a little “surprise” detail on the back. It could be a rattan inset, a bold fabric pattern or wood and metal trim to emphasize the piece’s shape, the result is a piece that has visual interest from all sides of the room.
We hope these new finds provided a spark of inspiration for your next home transformation. Visit us on Pinterest @manloveandcompanyinteriors for even more photos from our High Point Market design adventure!
