GETTING COZY IN THE BEDROOM

Button up your overcoats my stylish friends, the cold weather is officially here. It’s time to cuddle up and cocoon. If you’re like me, these chilly days make you want to spend more time resting, hibernating, and just winding the days down early in bed. Let’s make sure your bedroom is as cozy, warm, and inviting as possible.

When clients contact Manlove and Company Interiors about refreshing their spaces they often want to focus first on improving their downstairs public spaces – Family Room, Dining Room and Foyer. But your bedroom is the most used room in your home. It’s a space that can bring you joy every day (and night). You deserve a place to truly rest and rejuvenate every day.

1. ADD A PLUSH HEADBOARD

A large, plush headboard is a great way to update your bedroom. Our headboard designs have ranged from custom tall channeled headboards in bold, blue velvet to classic white and neutral designs. Clean headboards and channel stitching are more modern, while tufting conveys a more traditional look. Upholstered headboards create soft support for reading and watching TV in bed. (But not for working in bed! That’s a no-no.)

2. CHOOSE SOOTHING COLOR PALETTES & TEXTURES

Set the tone for rest and relaxation with calm colors and tonal values. High contrast in the bedroom can be jarring, so we prefer to create rooms that combine soothing colors with luxurious textures to create interest. We often go with classic grasscloth wallpaper in our bedroom designs. Its subtle texture evokes a layer of warmth and coziness.

3. INCLUDE LUSH PILLOWS AND CHUNKY THROWS

One satisfying way to add a stylish pop to your bedroom space is to add decorative pillows and a nice chunky throw. One of our favorite pillow styles for the bedroom is one long pillow on the bed that’s easy to move at night and adds color and interest during the day.

Some great pillow sources for accent pillows include:  Serena & Lily, Susan Connor, and The Citizenry.

And here are a few sources for throws: Johanna Howard HomeGarnet Hill, and Anthropologie.

4. CREATE AN INVITING READING NOOK

There’s nothing like curling up with a good book and a cup of tea to feel cozy. Having a reading nook in your bedroom provides a dedicated space for some much needed “me time.” Some folks like to retire to their bedroom for a quiet end of the day to read or watch TV. We recommend adding an upholstered armchair and ottoman to put your feet up. If you have a larger space, a sofa or love seat does the job.

If you’re dreaming of creating your own cozy retreat, let’s schedule a time to talk! We’re ready to work together to design a space that supports and celebrates what you love. Fill out our Design Survey and we’ll schedule your complimentary 30-minute Discovery Call.
